2006-2007 THEME: “WE SERVE” I believe that Lions Clubs that work and serve in their communities will let others see what they are doing and want to be a part of the excitement. Lions motto is “We Serve.” Lions need to let their respective communities know that Lions do serve, making their own community a better place to live. MEMBERSHIP: TWO NEW CLUBS The best and quickest way to increase membership is with new clubs. I have seven or eight different areas that need a Lions Club. Small communities need a Lions Club. Lions Clubs with men only could help organize a ladies Lions Club; not to compete, but to assist with projects, community functions etc. Lions need to be asking good quality people to join their Lions Club. Put them to work, Make them feel a part of the club. ORIENTATION: ONCE A QUARTER I’m asking Lions Clubs to have at least one program each quarter on some type of Orientation. Break up the different areas of Lions: one program could be on the 12-S District; one on Multiple District and how your club fits in the multiple; one program on International; one on all the initials we throw around and what they mean. New Lions would learn while the programs would be a good refresher for the older Lions. SCREENING: I’m making arrangements with Sylvia Simon to conduct photo screening workshops so more Lions Clubs can be a part of the process. Many clubs in the surrounding area do not know how to use the new equipment and would like to know how. Once trained, Lions will help train others giving our district a better advantage to screen more children. COMMUNICATION VAN: Make use of the communication van. Some Lions have already scheduled the van to screen the public at a function where there is no Lions Club. They will be screening while the people see how Lions work and share helping others. We want these communities to see the need for a Lions Club. TRAINING: Officer training sessions are being offered in three different locations throughout Middle Tennessee. Clubs are being asked to send their officers for up-to-date training. Even seasoned Lions can learn to use the new forms, new ideas etc. A special session is offered for Region and Zone Chairs to give them new ideas to spice up their meetings. WHITE CANE: 100 % PARTICIPATION Where can a club put their money that will go farther and do more than through White Cane. OFFICER ELECTION: Clubs are asked to have officer elections and get their PU101 in by the end of March. This is very important so the governor and vice governor can get their schedules ready for the directory. MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP REPORTS: MMRs’ are due by the 10th of the month. All clubs must report even if there is no activity to report. If done on the computer, the governor can pull up your information. If done on paper, mail immediately at the close of your last meeting for the month. This is going to be a tough year. We have to build membership if we want to maintain as District 12-S. All Lions must ask friends, neighbors, quality people to join their club. It’s not up to Membership Chair, Extension Chair or the Retention Chair; it’s up to you and up to me working together, inviting quality people to be a part of the Lion family. Have fun, enjoy your Lions year and wear your pin proudly. -- DG Shirley Staats
